Moldova's startup ecosystem is rapidly emerging as a hub of innovation in Eastern Europe, supported by key initiatives from the Moldovan startup ecosystem. Currently, the ecosystem has 250+ startups spanning diverse verticals such as EdTech, FinTech, HealthTech,MarTech, and others. The ecosystem is inclusive, with 24% of startups led by female founders, further strengthening its appeal to global investors.
The investment landscape has grown significantly, with $44.1 million attracted across 51 startups and 76 funding rounds. Recent trends show a rising average ticket size of $1 million in 2024, reflecting increased investor confidence. However, a funding gap of $50 million presents a lucrative opportunity for early-stage backers to shape the ecosystem while earning strong returns.
Local angel investors play a critical role, offering EUR 25,000–100,000 at early stages and forming consortia to drive innovation. Moldova's startup growth, paired with global partnerships and robust community support, makes it a compelling destination for investment.
Government initiatives are also bolstering the ecosystem, including tax incentives and grants aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. These measures, alongside the efforts of private stakeholders, have positioned Moldova as an attractive market for technology-driven solutions and cross-border collaborations.
